International media reported on Wednesday that South Africa's star batter Hashim Amla ended his professional career.

Amla has played for South Africa in 124 Tests, 181 ODIs, and 44 T20Is over his 20-year career.

During Amla's final season, the 39-year-old cricket star informed Surrey County Cricket Club that he would not be returning to assist in defending the club's 2022 County Championship title.

The club made Alma's retirement plans public on Twitter, stating: Hashim Amla announces his retirement from cricket in all its forms. The legendary batter from South Africa has ended his playing career. We at Surrey appreciate everything you have done, Hash.

The club tweeted an update about the situation a few hours later, which included a message from the cricket expert himself saying goodbye.

"'I have great memories of the Oval ground, and to finally leave it as a player fills me with enormous gratitude for what has been,'" she said. A lifetime of memories. Hash, I'm grateful.

One of the best batters of the modern era is the right-handed batter. He scored 34,104 runs in all formats throughout his career, which spanned over two decades.

Additionally, Amla has set several records for his nation.

When he scored 311 runs against England at the Oval in 2012, he became the first Proteas batter to ever score a triple century.

Amla's farewell message to his team was reported on the Surrey club's official website.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Alec Stewart, the entire Surrey staff, players, and Members for their assistance. Any international player would feel a sense of honor just by being a part of the Surrey ship, which operates so professionally. I wish them success and many more awards.

Alec Stewart, the ambassador for the Surrey County Club, responded by praising Amla and wishing him success in his career.

He went on to say that Hashim's retirement was regrettable for everyone in Surrey. Stewart stated, "He [Amla] will quite rightly go down as a great of the game."
