The petitions filed by Jamaat-e-Islami and Ali Nawaz Awan were granted by the Islamabad High Court, which ruled against delaying the elections for local bodies.

The decision was made by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court, who also suspended the notification to postpone the election.

The Election Commission was directed by the High Court to hold the local body elections on December 31 by the schedule.

In a written decision, the Islamabad High Court directed the federal government to assist the Election Commission in ensuring the elections.

The court also overturned the December 19 order of the Ministry of Interior and the December 27 order of the Election Commission.
